Welcome the Newsletter for the month of February.. and what a month it has been.

We started off our first meeting by facing the unenviable task of selecting images for the big competition of the year, the L&CPU Club Competition, which was taking place at the end of the month. It was crucial we put our best work in, as it's our first time entering and we wanted to make sure we represented the club in the best possible light.

To help us in this matter, we were kindly assisted by Eddie Leech from Oldham Photographic Society. Eddie knows quite a bit about high scoring images, as all of his work features at the top end of any competition they are entered into. With his feedback, we did finally manage to select eight nature and sixteen other images to put into the comp, as was required. You can see some of Eddie's stunning work on his Instagram page below..

Our second meeting of the month was one that was always going to be fascinating and inspiring. Gary Waidson from Oldham PS came along to show members how he works with light and shadows to get some of the extraordinary still life images he is so well known for. It was an evening that left members truly amazed with what can be done with some props and the right lighting. Here is a link to some of Gary' work on his Website..

Our third meeting of the month was a look at how to edit images in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. We firstly looked at how to edit a wildlife image, including how to remove distractions. Secondly we jumped into Photoshop and looked at how you can merge two images together using layers and selection tools, which is very handy if you wish to put a subject onto a background.

As February came to an end, the moment was upon us..

The L&CPU Club Competition 2025, which was held in Eccles on the 1st of March. It was an all day event, as there were many clubs entering and hundreds of images for the judges to look at. Six of our members went down to the event to watch things develop throughout the day and represent DNPS. At the end of the day and the competition was over, our club had certainly raised a few eyebrows to say the least. We finished an incredible joint fourteenth out of forty two clubs in the north west, and beat some very well established and worthy clubs in the process. We certainly announced our arrival in style and if anyone had not heard of Daisy Nook Photographic Society before that day began, they most certainly had by the end of it.

A truly fantastic result for our club and all its members, we really achieved something special for such a small and new club, that will hopefully move us onto bigger and better success in the future.

Coming Up..

On the 12th of March we will be having a portrait shoot at RC at the Studio in Chadderton, Oldham, which is guaranteed to be a great evening for all members.

On the 19th of March we welcome back "Story Behind the Image". A chance for photographers to give us the back story as to how certain images came to be.

Finally on the 26th March, we have an appraisal of members work as we approach our next quarterly competition in April.

Keep an eye on our webpage for other developments or pop down to one of our meetings.. we would be glad to see you.
