As we come to the end of January, we can look back on a few very interesting weeks. First of all, we had our appraisal where members submitted images for feedback. As always there was plenty of images to look at and with quite a diverse range from landscapes, portraits and of course nature. The evening gave members the opportunity to discuss their pictures as well as receive advice on how to improve any errors that may be apparent, allowing them to correct them before the upcoming competition at the end of the month.
Our next meeting was an education to most of us as it concerned how to mount and display prints for display in competition. Learning anything about printing images, from getting the settings right in the computer, to looking at the final print is an invaluable lesson that should be learned by all photographers. As a result of the evening, several of our members submitted prints into a competition for the very first time, as did the club itself.. history in the making.
In the middle of the month we arranged an outing up to the Lake District, where we managed to photograph some classic locations. It was a great day out, especially for those not familiar with the areas we visited. The cherry on the cake was the Red squirrels just before we headed back home.
Towards the end of January, we had our first quarterly competition. Our Judge was Mike Lawrence who pulled no punches. I'm sure everyone learned something or other on the evening which will help move them forward in their photography journey. The Top three scoring Digital images are below.
“Blue Skies” by Steve Wass scored 20 points and was the Winner.
“Parrakeet watching a Fly” by Malc Smith scored 19 and was in second place
Final Adjustment by Alan Andrews scored 18 points
Next month we will be looking at the very best pictures our members have to offer as we decide what work we will be presenting in our first ever Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union competition. Eddie Leech DPAGB will be coming along to help us with this process. We certainly have a challenge on our hands as around sixty clubs will be entering. However, I'm sure we will be well represented and the final result will more than worthy for a club that is still up and coming.
We will be having a Question & Answer night later in the month, where members get the opportunity to ask any questions relating to their photography and the club. We will also be covering the basics to get people up to speed with editing their images.
Our last meeting of the month will be a presentation by Gary Waidson. You can find out more about Gary here.. https://www.waylandscape.co.uk/
Gary's last talk at the club was up there with the best we have had, and we are more than happy to have him back again.
That's all the news for this month... see you next time.
